Posted by admin on Sep 29, 2009 in Essays, Philippine fiction

killing-time-in-a-warm-place

This contemporary Philippine fiction by Jose Y. Dalisay Jr., retells retained memoirs of its main character, Noel Ilustre Bulaong, from childhood in a beachside village named Kangleong in a Visayas island, to the life of an activist during the first quarter storm, to hardship in detention camps during Martial Law, and life and inner struggles of a renewed man who took side with the government in the era of the New Society.

The recollection took place during an airplane ride of Bulaong on his way back to the Philippines to attend the burial of his father. Bulaong was seated beside an American Information Technology (IT) entrepreneur on his way to do business in the Philippines, when he started the vivid recollection.

Does God Exist - The Big Questions

Posted by admin on Sep 1, 2009 in Does God Exist

does-god-exist

Does God exist? An answer to this fundamental question is a prerequisite for answering the other big questions of life: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Do we serve a purpose? Do we have any intrinsic value? What happens after we die? The question of the existence of God is fundamental.

Does God Exist - A Philosophical Issue

Before we ask the question “Does God exist?” we first have to deal with our philosophical predispositions. If, for example, I am already dedicated to the philosophical idea that nothing can exist outside of the natural realm (i.e. there can be no supernatural God), no amount of evidence could convince me otherwise. Asking the question “does God exist?” would be pointless. My answer would be “No, He doesn’t,” regardless of whether God truly exists or not. The question would be impossible to answer from an evidentiary standpoint simply because anything which God might have done (that is, any supernatural act which might serve as evidence for His existence) would have to be explained away in terms of natural causes, not because we know what those natural causes could possibly be, but simply because a supernatural God is not allowed to exist!

Message Of His Holiness Benedict Xvi For The 82nd World Mission Sunday 2008

MESSAGE OF HIS HOINESS BENEDICT XVI

FOR THE 82ND WORLD MISSION SUNDAY 2008

Servants and Apostles of Christ Jesus

message-of-his-holiness-benedict-xvi

Dear Brothers and Sisters, “duc in altum”! Let us set sail in the vast sea of the world and, following Jesus’ invitation, let us cast our nets without fear, confident in his constant aid. St. Paul reminds us that to preach the Gospel is no reason to boast (cf. 1 Cor 9:16), but rather a duty and a joy. Dear brother Bishops, following Paul’s example, many of each one feel like, “a prisoner of Christ for the Gentiles” (Eph 3:1), knowing that you can count on the strength that comes to us from him in difficulties and trials. A Bishop is consecrated not only for his Diocese, but for the salvation of the World (cf. Encyclical Redemptoris Mission, n.63). Like the Apostle Paul, a Bishop is called to reach out to those who are far away and do not know Christ yet or have still not experienced his liberating love. A Bishop’s commitment is to make the whole diocesan community missionary by contributing willingly, according to the possibilities, to sending priests and laypersons to other Churches for the Evangelization service. In this way, the mission and gentles becomes the unifying and converging principle of its entire pastoral and charitable activity.

Window Washing: Setting a Clear View for Your Home

Posted by admin on Aug 5, 2009 in Direct Post, Services

Sometimes it is not enough to keep the house clean, provision should be made that the house is given periodic repair and maintenance to resist wear and tear. Some house owners neglect certain areas like windows, ceiling and walls to mention a few. While major areas like the comfort room, kitchen, living room and others are given proper attention, the roofing, ceiling or even the windows are unkempt, messy and stained with dirt and dust. These areas might not be so obvious to the sight but at the same time they are a potential source of allergens and harmful germs.

Man’s Brain

Posted by admin on Jul 30, 2009 in Man

mans-brainOn the surface, man may look defenseless when compared with other creatures. He does not have the talons of an eagle; neither can he run like a gazelle to escape his predators. Man has eyes, but his eyesight is not as keen as the owl’s. Man has eyes, but his eyesight is not as keen as the owl’s. Man can swim, but not as fast as fish. Man is covered by body hair but it is not thick as the gorilla’s to protect him from heat or cold. How then can he survive?

Man’s brain is far more complicated that of any other any other animals. With his brain, man creates and invents. He invented the airplane so he can fly like an eagle, the automobile so he can run like the gazelle, the ship and the submarine so he can swim like a fish. He invented the telescope and the radar to serve as extension of his ears and eyes. His clothes cover his body from the heat and cold. Those are some of the product of man’s brain.
